Swiss Watch Shopping

Not sure yet, but I may be in Milan for a week in May (wife's business trip - I'm just along for the ride) and was wondering if it is feasible to try and take a day trip into Switzerland to either shop for watches or tour a watch factory. Is there a certain city or region that is better for shopping? What factories have tours and in what areas are they located? Any assistance would be appreciated.

I went to Lugano when I was in Switzerland/ Italy and it's a great mixture of quaint shopping and sumptuous luxury. The Majore region of Italy (esp. the lake) is fascinating. If you can get to the Canton of Geneva, that would obviously allow you visit the headquarters of some of the finest gen brands. Enjoy the trip nonetheless, make sure to try the buffalo mozzarella and stop at the Autogrills on the highway if you're looking for some amazing "fast food"!!

Thanks for the advice. I did a little research and the place looks beautiful. Looks like it is close enough that I can do a day trip and scout things out while she is in meetings. If it turns out to be as good as it looks, we may spend a couple of her free days exploring the area. On previous trips, we've been to Venice, Florence, and Rome. This will be our first time in Milan (we have to be there for 4 days). The other 4 days of the trip (2 before Milan, and 2 after) we will be free to do as we please.

Thanks again
