Problem with my OSMP Chrono crown...

Hi guys,

I've been reading a lot since I registered but this is my first topic...

Unfortunately it concerns a problem with my SMP chrono. :( Its very unfortunate because I really love this watch and it was my first good rep I purchased!

More specific the screw down crown got screwed up and is no more. Maybe I just turned it over too much or maybe its time just came but anyways its broken, and now it just sticks out and I have to wear it like that.

So I will take any suggestions, tips and offers for spare parts you have!

thanks guys and keep up the good job!

Rusin

Thanks for the tip I will probably do that in the end!

I observed something interesting on the SMP chrono, correct me if I am wrong;

the thread is not visible(on the case) like in e.g.Rolex and PO its somewhere inside the tube am I right?

@Omega Fan: it just happened that I came across this thread. Yes, the crown on the gen is of much better quality than the rep. I ordered the set for Laz from Ofrei too. It just that sometimes they don't have ready stock the shipping charges are ridiculous (28USD with EMS only, no other cheaper options).

Hi takashi thanks for posting I was going to PM you about this...

As you said the charges are ridiculous, so if there is an option to order them from the EU it would be best... or if someone has them ...

Btw do they have to be changed both at once?

Thanks a lot as well!! I'm going to see if I can order them locally here. I followed The Zigmeister's advice on screwing in the crown to avoid stripping by turning counter-clockwise until I felt the click before screwing it in...but cheap threads still strip.

To be honest...at least it looks alright even if the crown is not screwed in.

Thanks Taka. Does anything special need to be done to install the new tube into the case?

The tube is press fit in the case. The rep tube needs to be drilled out and the new tube glued in. It is best to use some type of glue that expands. I used a brand called Gorilla glue that is available in the US. It make a very strong bond.

Ace. Thanks. Got lots of Gorilla at home. It gets a bit messy though with the expansion I find. How do you keep it from not spilling and foaming outside of the case? I'm assuming just by not using a lot...

I like to use Epoxy for precisely this reason. I coat the hole, and coat the tube, then hold the tube tightly in place with masking tape. After allowing to dry for a full day, carve out the excess glue from the inside of the case. You shouldn't get any leakage on the outside if the tube was securely held in.

I've been delaying it long enough...

Can someone more knowledgeable please find the crown and tube here:

http://www.cousinsuk.com/catalog/4/444/1943.aspx

so that I know what to order for my SMP chrono...

Send them an email. I'm not sure any of those listed is right. You will also need the tube.

The case number of this watch is 178.0514

The Omega part numbers are:

Crown 42154

Tube 090 ST 1237

Just a heads up...

I ended up returning my gen SMP to Tourneau for the full 3K and change refund because it was sent to Omega (get this) 5 F**king times and each time it came back, the crown / tube threads were stripped. It was sent to the NJ repair center once and back to Switzerland (I have this documented) 4 TIMES and still had the screwed up crown... depressing stuff... I'm not sure as to what Omega's deal is but...watch out with those parts!

Bump for info since I don't know the proper part number but I'm sure someone here does...
