Complete 4th Gen Omega Planet Ocean Mod And Upgrade Guide

I ve received too many PMs regarding PO modding. So, here you go...

1. Hour/Minute/Second Hands

The rep hands are too short and small. It's highly recommended to upgrade the hands. The lume of the genuine hands are much better.

Hands can be found on Ofrei

http://www.ofrei.com/page1122.html

2. Spring bar

The rep springbar is not tight enough. If you have a genuine omega, you can notice that the bracelet locks into the case tightly.

A pair of OEM spring bar is ~$8 + shipping

This is the pair I got from Ofrei:

3. Crown and case tube

The crown of the 4th gen PO is a big give away.

You can fit in an OEM crown with an OEM case tube.

Crown guard: Omega Crown 42184 Model 2209.50.00 Part number: 069 ST 42184

http://www.ofrei.com/page_147.html

Case Tube: Omega Case Tube Model 2209.50.00 Part number: 090 ST 1232

http://www.ofrei.com/page1115.html

The case tube is a little bigger. So you ll need to drill the hole of the case a little bigger.

Also, you may need an ETA-2824 stem. You can find it on ebay.

This guy is selling it for $2.80 on ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=170002348363

The stem is a little longer, so you ll need to cut it shorter.

I don't have a dremel, so I wasn't able to fit the tube in the case.

4. Bezel

The pearl is quite ugly on the rep.

You can find it at Ofrei:

http://www.ofrei.com/page663.html

It's too expensive imo. Not worth it.

5. OEM Dial

http://www.ofrei.com/page1123.html

again, too expensive. Not worth it.

Not sure if it fits. The worst case is to cut the legs and use dial dot stickers.

6. Bracelet Clasp

Omega Stainless Steel Planet Ocean Bracelet Clasp 1580952

Part number: OME-117ST1580952

http://www.ofrei.com/page666.html

One member installed the OEM clasp on the rep bracelet. It looks pretty nice.

7. Leather/Rubber Strap

The 4th Gen 42.5MM PO uses 20mm straps.

For the leather strap, you can check here:

Buckle and Deployment:

For rubber strap, I ve tried this one:

Great insight and very detail ! I purchased a pair of gen hands from Ofrei, but have yet to find time to install them. I was thinking about getting the gen clasp as well as the gen dial. However, I have yet to hear whether or not the dial will fit perfectly. Who wants to be first and take a stab at it? :D

Excellent work Cwai. I'm quite satisfied with the 4th gen as it is... but the real hardcore modders appreciate info like this I'm sure.

PS: Psychomodo/Falconetti: Great to see you here my friend...at last. Where have you been?

Hi Bytor

How r u?

I like your posts on the Omegas - very good - we still got the same taste in watches :D

(I've been spending a lot of time on poker sites - funding this hobby of mine!)

Nice to be back.

hopefully joe is will be fealing better soon, would love to see his guide on his mods.

Excellent post!! We'd all owe whoever owns a gen a great debt if they would take a minute to measure the OEM dial or at least teh inside diameter of the bezel. The feet should not be a problem at all since they should be in the smae location on the ETA powered PO.

Speaking only for myself, the most glaring flaw on the watch is the the dial, and when you consider a gen cost 2 grand--an $650 rep (base watch +OEM hands, crown, clasp, and dial) would be so close that the gen seems like a waste of money, not the OEM dial and bezel. IMO, if the dial and bezel fit the rep, buying a gen would be like throwing $1400 down the tubes.

But if the dial and bezel won't fit, the new modded LV is a much better buy for a dive watch...

Don't want to make the "whos has the best PO" question, but I'm getting lost with so many versions. Is the orange and black bezel insert versions the same (meaning same case different bezel insert)?. Is there 5th version for 42 mm? I've seen that 5th version is not better in all aspects than 4th.. Thanks in advance for your patience.

yes. I ve been using my PO with gen hands for months. No problem.

GREAT POST CWAI! You have just created a Frankenmega! I have one question that's been gnawing my liver...since the 4th and 5th gen Omega PO's are visually stunning and the only issue that was consistently raised was the light AR coating...DO you think the OEM AR saphire glass will fit on the XL PO 5th gen 45.5?

Thank you!!!

Alex

I've posted this in a seperate thread but I'll try again. Does anyone have any extra links that I could buy? Or, if you're feeling very generous, give to me. I need a couple and my dealer doesn't have any. Thanks very much.
