Black Bay Project Teaser - Part 1

When the Tudor Black Bay came out it wasn't necessarily love at first sight but I thought it was a striking watch so I decided I might try to at least capture the essence of the beast. I ordered a cheapo red bezel insert off fleabay, dug a "modern" sub case out of the junk box, and started modifying my 7928 artwork.

Today the gold ribbons for my printer and the insert got here so I figured I'd better get started. It may be several weeks before it's finished but it WILL get done.

Step one was to put the case to the grinder:

Although the gen is suipposed to have a domed sapphire none of the aftermarket ones lookes right from the profile view but a T21 looked really close so that will go in with the regular Sub bezel and red insert:

I sacrificed one of my Maxi 14060 dials to make a blank (and for the markers):

I then printed out some decals and sprayed a light coat of satin sealer on 'em:

The decal was then applied to the blank:

After it dries really good I'll spray on another coat of clear and glue the markers back on.

This is probably about all I'll get accomplished on it this weekend. I will eventually try to machine a fine coin-edged bezel and attempt a crown.

The artwork is done just a matter of executing it on a sterile crown...

Cuba - I'm not sure I understand your question. Just a cheapo Sub case and I ground off the CGs...

Congrats!

You've been busy J, this ones going to be interesting.

I didn't care too much for this watch at first, but I really like it now.

In fact I was wondering how long before the rep factories would rep it.

Any idea on how your making a red tube? That's one of the coolest parts :)

Well, I may have messed up the dial by rushing things. I thought I'd be slick and speed up the drying process with a hair-dryer and after the dial was finished I started getting some blotches of blushing. Oh well... Maybe I'll just beat it up , vintagize the whole thing, and say it was retrieved from 2072 with an experimental time machine...
